Ash is, in my opinion, one of the greatest characters ever created and his smartass quippiness shines through here in every panel. I jumped at the chance to review this, being a longtime fan of all things Evil Dead and the like. Of course, that snark we all know and love is there as well. It’s heartwarming to see that our hero has continued to accept his fate as “the chosen one” and that all the growth to his character that we have already witnessed is still intact. The epitome of all things ridiculous and campy and gosh darn it, that’s exactly why we love it, is it not? It’s refreshing now and again to read a comic book that doesn’t encumber you with a complicated backstory, or twisty/turny plot that can easily lose those with short attention spans.Īsh is in space simply to hunt down the Deadite worshipping, cult leader Artemus Vrill, who has stolen the pesky Necronomicon, which is ultimately the bane of Ash’s existence. Let us remember just what this is we’re reading. Most of the time you would roll your eyes and yell “Seriously?” as you spotted the comic at your local shop, complete with astro-Ash and his undead pals floating around in space on the cover. Like many a franchise before, Army of Darkness in all its Deadite, annihilating glory has finally ended up in outer space.
